Taking A Fresh Look: Why Africa Is Re-Examining Renewables

For too long, renewables in Africa have been associated solely with off-grid projects for poverty alleviation. However, things are changing fast. As renewable energy markets heat up in the rest of the world, as electricity prices rise, and as power shortfalls loom, power planners are reconsidering renewables. Mark Hankins examines present trends in East and Southern Africa, and suggests how the continent's renewable sector can be strengthened.
